the considered cup

in this 3 week ceramic handbuilding workshop, students will learn and experiment with the form of the cup as it relates to functional and aesthetic qualities. Each student will complete the course with a set of at least 4 cups that are of similar shape and size. This is not a production workshop but rather an invitation for experimentation. What can a cup look like if the only paramaters of creating it are related to weight, hand-holding size, and ease of use? Footed or flat? convex or concave sillhouette? square or rectangular profile? or triangular? smooth or rough? thin or thick? We will test the boundaries in order to arrive at an understanding of how to make a sweet set of usable and enjoyable daily cups.
